Five of the Biggest Hat Trends for 2022

We’ve flipped our lid for the biggest hat trends of 2022. At Roxann’s Hats of Fort Langley, we ship stylish hats all across Canada. Our boutique is a collection curated from carefully chosen artisans worldwide. As our spring/summer collection arrives, we wanted to share some of the looks dominating the runway this season.

For fashion lovers, the spring shows featured a slew of eye-catching accessories. There was a style for every hat-wearing man and woman—fashionable buckets, stylish baker boys, and let’s not forget the furry hat phenomenon, which has blown up due to the likes of Rihanna, Dua Lipa, and Miley Cyrus.

In 2022, the styles are versatile. From sophisticated chic to athleisure dad styles, stars are putting their own twist on stylish classics, and we’ve got the scoop on the trends for the season.

The Bucket

A wonderful standby for men and women, bucket hats have been making a comeback due in part to heavy pop culture influence. The pistachio green shearling you might see on the runway is a far cry from the modest wool and tweed worn in the 1900s to keep the rain of Irish fisherman and farmers. Most of today’s styles are streamlined and modern, designed in sophisticated shapes and colourful styles for a twist of street in a timeless classic. One of my favourites for men this season is the Tie Dye Bucket by Kangol.

Women’s Fedora

Wide-brimmed hats have always attracted a faithful following due to their smooth criminal vibe. While this style used to be exclusive to straw hats and warm-weather occasions, the best-dressed men and women of 2022 are finishing their wardrobes with wool and felt variations. Modernized by global fashion houses, the fine structure of these hats is a nod to old-world craftsmanship. We recommend trying this style with tailored separates or even beautiful jeans and a t-shirt. One of the most beautiful women’s hats we’ve seen this season is the Waverly Fedora With Tassle, which is hand-crafted in Montreal, Canada by the award-winning team at Canadian Hat.

Beret and Pillbox Styles

Romantic, dramatic silhouettes invoke old-world couture, but the latest hats for the season also feature vibrant splashes of colour and romantic, eye-catching details like veils, ribbons, and flowers. Perched ever so slightly on the top of the head, perhaps at a jaunty angle, the modern beret marries vintage design with modern elements. We love the Hat Bill Classic Beret for its iconic shape and vibrant palette.

Men’s Fedora/Trilby

Brims are high style for men this season. Dress them up or down, the fedora invokes memories of some of history’s best-dressed men. Although some claim the fedora is a dress-up hat and should only be worn with a suit and tie, we think this old-world style brings quality and character to almost any outfit. One of our faves this season is the Messer Fedora by Brixton.

The Baker Boy

Ironically in style for women this year, this hat of many names—Baker Boy, Fiddler Cap, or newsboy—has returned with a vengeance, thanks to Bella Hadid who prominently wore the style a few years back. Today’s silhouettes are more structured, but it’s still a beautifully minimalist hat that delivers a timeless aesthetic. We recommend trying The Fiddler Cap by Brixton.
